Our History
The Lewistown Pistol Club has been promoting the shooting sports ever since its establishment in the early 1960’s by a handful of employees of the Lewistown Viscose seeking a place to shoot competitively. At that time the only handgun sport available was NRA Conventional Pistol (Bulls-eye). Little by little the club made improvements until; there was a 50 yard, 48 position outdoor range, with turning targets at the 25 yard line. The next project undertaken was a clubhouse with full kitchen facilities and a 50 foot, 12 position indoor range. Both projects were completed in 1976. After completion of the clubhouse, a roof was erected to cover all 48 firing positions on the outdoor range. This made shooting in inclement weather a lot more bearable. Although there have been numerous smaller projects over the years, two of our more recent improvements include, the erecting of a flag pole next to the outdoor range and automation of the indoor range target turning system. The indoor range improvement was made possible with a grant from the NRA awarded to the Lewistown Pistol Club by the local Mifflin County Chapter of the Friends of the NRA.
